Series review: The Eccentric Family

The last full series review I put together talked about P.A. Works' spring offering, Red Data Girl. More specifically, it showcased the idea of high concepts and ambition floundering under middling execution, leading to disappointment.

Today, however, we are tackling their summer offering, The Eccentric Family (Uchoten Kazoku), a show which did not have a strong amount of hype or excitement behind it that ended up being one of the most artful and enjoyable titles of not just the season, but the year.

Soundtrack review: Ben-To

Going against schedule, but I don't care.  I follow my own rules, man!

Much like the subject of this review, actually.  Ben-To was a 2011 anime about people engaging in wars over half-priced bento boxes in supermarkets, engaging in turf wars over grocery stores and fisticuffs when in the stores to save a few yen on some food.  It was a silly, irreverent, mean-spirited show, and its soundtrack was just as irreverent.  However, does this insistence on using its own rules make the soundtrack memorable, or does it just grate?  Look after the jump to find out.

Quick Glance: A Wind Named Amnesia

Time for my first Quick Glance!  A Quick Glance isn't really a full review, but rather me typing out my thoughts on something as they come, definitely taking a more casual approach.  They'll be done while a piece of media is rather fresh in my mind, if not right after I finish something.  This article right here is an exception since I watched it 2 days ago, but hush, daddy's talking.

To begin my look into 90's anime as mentioned in my previous post, I decided to look into a movie that caught my eye just under a year ago: a little known work called A Wind Named Amnesia.  I looked at the concept with intrigued eyes and thought, "Huh, why isn't this remembered by anybody?" After finally watching it, I realized that there was a reason for that.

Well, let's get started with this.

Plans/recent observations/90's viewing queue!

Hello, guys!  Been awhile since my last update, I know (and I have no excuse other than perhaps the Steam summer sale and starting a new job).  I'm actually writing up a few (three!) blog posts right now, which are the following:

  • How To Fix Blood-C
  • OST review: Sankarea
  • Series review: Kotoura-san
Woo for a blog schedule!  The scattered posts will eventually come about, but the topics of them will definitely be aimed more towards my next topic.
Onto the next order of business after the jump~

Series review: Red Data Girl

Every season, at least one show comes along that has the potential to impress, whether it would be due to a particularly interesting premise, an animation studio associated with quality work, or a staff who has been known to work well together in the past. However, for whatever reasons, that show does not fare well in execution, ending up either forgettable or just plain disappointing. The Spring 2013 season was no exception to this, having a few flops in and of itself. However, personally, one show perfectly encapsulates this idea: P.A. Works' offering, Red Data Girl.

Hello, readers.

Welcome to Punch In The Mouth!  It's an anime blog, and I'm Pete, the contributor of this blog.  I'm also bad with naming things, in case you were wondering.
Typical reaction to me naming something.
Well, what in particular will I be doing on this blog?  Well, you can expect series/movie/OVA reviews, industry commentary, and potentially a fun side thing every once in awhile.  Review updates will be biweekly, and other updates, such as simulcast commentary or pointing out something interesting in the anime world, will occur weekly.

With that being said, expect a post within the next day or two!  Enjoy reading or something!
